JUNE 22. VAN HORN, TEXAS

We took a ton of pictures in Van Horn, Texas. The town itself was quiet and empty, entire hotels were abandoned, old vintage cars sat in driveways filled with clothes and plastic flowers, signs were rusting in the street, empty swimming pools collected furniture and as we were leaving a giant storm pushed us on our way. We're in such a hurry now so these two pics are just a taste - this is where we stayed. More photos to follow soon.

  1. 7/31/09 It's not all that bad. I moved here by choice 3 years ago. It's been nice. At 4,042 feet it has a great climate with incredibly beautiful scenery. Property is inexpensive (I own my 1911 home (and I'm pretty poor) with apartment and indoor pool, on an acre of land. I have the sound of the nearby train (I love it) Sometimes I hear a rooster crow. I never OWNED this in Dallas . Marfa, an art "mecca" is 74 miles away, Alpine (100 mi.) has Sul Ross University, and Fort Davis (80 mi.)has one of the top Observatories in the world. 60 mi. north is Guadalupe Mtns, at 8,749 ft, TX's tallest mountain...is gorgeous. We have beautiful fall in the mountains close by, good water, clean air. My God, I feel I've retired to my dream place. Big city El Paso is 120 miles. 6 hour drive and I can be in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Geologically, Astronomically, plants, animals, birds, space, air, water, weather, WE HAVE IT ALL. - blue horse woman
